NOS Parts Find

I first heard of this from a friend in our area. This wasn't the usual VW dealer shutting down situation, but a guy who had personally collected the stuff, and who ran a local non-franchise VW parts and car centre. Many people knew of the 'collection', but never managed to persuade him to sell it. I guess we just happened to be in the right place at the right time! The occasion was trying to locate a used bumper for my girl friends' VW Polo. While looking around his yard, we spotted what turned out to be a '55 Beetle Cabrio!! While arranging a deal the question was asked of the NOS parts, to which we were told, "yeah, maybe you can sort it all out for me sometime". As I needed parts for my '55 Oval and friend Andy wanted parts for his now acquired '55 Cabrio, we didn't give up.

It was initially agreed that we would catalogue the parts and then sell them on his behalf, obviously after we had chosen our 'needs'. But this turned into an opportunity too good to miss, so a deal was struck and we bought the lot.

We found all the 'nice' parts were amassed in a back room and several shelves in the parts store of the dealership. Bigger items such as panels, exhausts, suspension components, transmissions, brakes, used engines etc were contained in two old van bodies outside. Oh and the FIVE NOS floorpans were just piled up outside! It took us about two full days to sort it all out and transport it back to Andy's parents garage (!).

All the parts were either sold at swap meets or kept for our then project cars.
